The Nature of Diamonds exhibition has been retired. The cases from this spectacular exhibition, however, are available for purchase.
These specialized cases are specifically designed to hold some of the world's best-known and most precious diamonds. In order to house these extremely high-value objects, each case is built to the most stringent security and conservation standards. Security specifications include safety glass consisting of a layer of 3/4" poly with 1/2" layer of glass (a higher level of security glass than required for this exhibition), and three levels of alarms on each case: contact, shock, and motion. Museum conservation requirements dictate that all materials used in the construction is tightly controlled to prevent any harmful side effects to the objects within. Additionally, the CT2 cases have gaskets and silica chambers. Case descriptions are as follows:
General Case Highlights
- All cases have 3/4" clear, 30-minute, security glass.
- Cases are built with stainless steel construction.
- Cases are clad in 18- or 20-gauge stainless steel.
- Cases conform to AMNH conservation guidelines (see conservation notes).
